My Literature Review

Blog+-+growth+mindset+-+self+belief.001.

Every person wants to be successful, no matter how success is defined. Some think success is having a great career, obtaining a 4.0 GPA, or making a large sum of money. However, the secret of success is not simply waiting for the reward to happen. Instead, Carol S. Dweck argues that success is defined by our actions and is influenced by how we think about our own abilities and our own talents (Dweck, 2006). To be successful one needs to know they can improve. This improvement happens by having a growth mindset.

Developing a growth mindset is not something that happens overnight. A person must be able to reroute how they think about something in order to have the perseverance to continue on with a challenging task. There are many strategies in helping one develop into having a growth mindset. In fact, these strategies can be used at any age: with elementary students in a classroom, with colleagues at an office, or individually as an adult with a set goal in mind. Each strategy can be used simultaneously to help develop a stronger mindset and greater sense of perseverance. This literature review will touch on what exactly is a mindset, the importance of having a growth mindset, how having a growth mindset could influence student achievement in the area of writing, and the strategies that teachers can use to develop growth mindset in the classroom, along with various ways that said strategies can be assessed.
